Earlier I was checking my email. Well to my surprise I came across an interesting spam message. I know I shouldn’t open these but every once in awhile I do. Today I’m glad I did. I often double-check my spam folder to make sure some of my general email that is sent to my blog email address isn’t marked at spam.

I happened to find a very interesting email. It seems this email scam isn’t new but I finally had a notice about it.

The Email

Email Text

Dear CEO,

(It’s very urgent, please transfer this email to your CEO. If this email affects you, we are very sorry, please ignore this email. Thanks)

We are a Network Service Company which is the domain name registration center in China.
We received an application from Hua Hai Ltd on December 30, 2019. They want to register ” reviewsandsavingspal ” as their Internet Keyword and ” reviewsandsavingspal .cn “、” reviewsandsavingspal .com.cn ” 、” reviewsandsavingspal .net.cn “、” reviewsandsavingspal .org.cn ” domain names, they are in China domain names. But after checking it, we find ” reviewsandsavingspal ” conflicts with your company. In order to deal with this matter better, so we send you email and confirm whether this company is your distributor or business partner in China or not?

Best Regards

The Scam

From what I found during my Google search is that this scam isn’t new as I stated. I’d found articles dating back to around 2015. The thing that gets me is the following:

Why would my small blog be alerted of this?
From what I saw this scam targets any website. Even small blogs. From what I found the sender hopes people will send out their information or forward it to their site manager.

The use of the word (dot) in the website address was a dead giveaway that this was a scam. Like many scam emails, the sentence structure is a bit off. Such as the opening where the sender tells me they are in China then goes on to state the company they are working with is also in China. I would think that would be a given if the request is that my domain name is used in China.

What to do if you see this

If you see this email just ignore it. This one ended up in my spam folder so I’m going to delete it. I just thought I’d pass the info along.
