I don’t know about anyone else but I’m an overthinker. The picture I added was from another post dealing with A.D.D. I have both. So sometimes my brain is on its own page. I can count the times I’ve woken up at 2 a.m. with song lyrics in my head or had the oddest most random thoughts. This being said I tend to become overstimulated at times. I’ve found ways to counteract that by trying to listen to calming music or limiting my internet time.
One of the things I’ve found that helps me calm my brain is getting back to nature. Nothing too daunting I know but still helpful. Some people like to meditate or do yoga. I may try those when I get a chance but for right now just taking some time to go outside helps.
It doesn’t have to be a chore all you need is a few minutes outside. Be it in your backyard or any green space. I find it helps me center myself and just enjoy the sun. I think we get so caught up with what’s going on in our lives and online that we forget to take time to block out the static.
Again you can take this time to do meditative breathing or just relax. I’ve done a bit of both. I also take the time to feel the sun on my skin. Along with the light breeze if we have one. I close my eyes and just try to shut off my brain for a few minutes. I try to take in the sounds around me as well. I enjoy trying to identify the birds that are singing. Or the bees buzzing. Sometimes if I’m lucky I can see a few hummingbirds.
The one distraction I tend to have during my getting back to nature time is Sophie
She feels that since we are outside I should pay attention to her too. Once I give her some attention she sits near me and enjoys the sun too. I find it nice to be able to enjoy nature and not think. I’ve noticed that this helps me feel less stressed. I’ve also found that after my time outside I feel more refreshed and ready to tackle any task.
So don’t forget to do what you can to block out the static for a little while.
