For the last two days, I’ve been seeing this email scam. This may not be new but it does look very legit. I’ve had a number of these scam emails land in my inbox lately.
Being that we are getting into the holiday shopping season I thought I’d share this recent email with all of you.
It looks very legit and even has proper logos and a verify identification button.
The email
First off the email was sent from the following URL:
a͏c͏c͏o͏u͏n͏t͏-a͏l͏e͏r͏t͏@a͏m͏a͏z͏o͏n͏.c͏o͏m͏ <davidj4vsovjlkmgh1qp70q4xej3r25crop@vrgq6fa3fj7yjp.com>
to customer-services@verizon.net
The email itself it very straight forward it includes the typical Amazon Logo and other signs that it would be legit.
the email text

The verify identity button was linked to a long url. The text is below

as you can see it was also linked to an @verizon.net URL
how did I know it was fake
So I thought I’d point out how I knew the email was fake.
First off it stated that the login was from the UK. I’m in the US so that was one big tip-off. The other was that the email wasn’t addressed to me or my email address it was to a customer-services@verizon.net.
Also what got me was the blank nameless start.
Also can you find a typo in the email below? I’ll give you a minute.

Did you find it? If you didn’t I notice had is misspelled the email sender used the term hade.
what not to do
Don’t click the verify identification button or other buttons with links. It’s always best to visit the site directly.
what you can do
You can send this email along to amazon by using the following email:
stop-spoofing@amazon.com
