The 1997 episode featured the December 23 Costanza family celebration, which was offered as an alternative to participating in the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas season. The concept for the episode came from “Seinfeld” writer Dan O’Keefe, who says his father invented some aspects of the ritual back in the 1960s.
