I’ve noticed a few emails lately that have had very random PDF attachments. I think they could be another scam. Granted attachment files aren’t anything new to the scam idea. But these are so random it’s strange.

I’ve been seeing a fair amount of spam messages land in my spam folder lately. Granted this isn’t anything new it’s just that these aren’t the run of the mill kind. I’ve had a few with PDF attachments. They seem to be trying to mimic a company letterhead or possible earnings report. I don’t open the PDF files but I can see the images.

So I thought I’d alert you all about this. The ones I’ve had weren’t even addressed to me. They are sent to a different email address. I also had one sent to a UK email address from what claimed to be a UK bank.

The email

The emails vary and some are just jumbles of letters and numbers with text. Others are simple links. But all have some form of PDF attached.

email subject : credit rating files arabesque not the sole generator of data 5XZ2FQOLZ5

The email states the following:

the PDF attached to this email was labeled wound.pdf.

Again these are all pretty random.

what you can do

You can mark these as phishing even if they are in your spam folder. You can also block senders if your email program offers that service.

One thing I would advise you never do is open the PDF. As with any unknown or unasked for email attachment you don’t know if it will have malware or a virus.
