Neutrogena® Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Serum

I was selected by Home Tester Club to test and review this Neutrogena product. I had tried a Neutrogena Hydro Boost product in the past also thanks to Home Tester Club. This seems to be either a new product in their Hydro Boost line or possibly a rebranding of an older product.

So in short the product was new to me.

The product

Neutrogena^® Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Serum contains Hylauronic Acid (17% according to the box) It also has mica flakes in it. I’m not sure what these do but I guess they give you a glow.

The bottle is 1.0 Fl oz and is compact. It has a simple push button top instead of a dropper. You can apply the serum twice a day (morning and evening.) You apply 4 to 5 drops into your hand then apply it to your face. The serum is may give you up to 24 hours of hydration.

The serum can be used alone or with another moisturizer. Neutrogena suggests using another moisturizer in their Hydro Boost line. But i think any moisturizer may do.

User experience

Since the product was delivered on a hot day I placed the serum in the fridge for a little while so it could cool down. When i tested the product for the photos it was a bit runny. I figured it had liquified a bit thanks to the high temperature. The day it was delivered it must have been 100F degrees or so.

After the product had cooled it was a bit thicker. It’s water like and absorbs quickly into the skin. Since the serum is clear it is a bit hard to photography but I tried my best.

When I applied it to my hand i found it absorbed quickly with out leaving my face feeling too sticky. My skin did look a bit damp but it wasn’t shiny.

Later that night when I applied it to my face i had the same experience. It absorbs quickly and evenly. I didn’t feel that my face was too sticky. I did have some tackiness but I figure this was because the product may have separated a bit.

The first night I tried it alone to make sure I didn’t have any adverse reactions. I didn’t have any but I didn’t find the product to be very hydrating on its own.

what i liked

I liked that the serum was lightweight and it didn’t seem to dry out my skin. I also liked that it absorbed quickly.

The bottle push button design is different. It’s easy to use but can be a bit awkward. Maybe i’m just a creature of habit and like droppers more. The serum did seem to plump my skin and even it out

What I didn’t like

I think i could have done without the mica flakes in the serum. I don’t quite understand what their purpose is. I also felt the box was a bit too large for the product. Other then that I didn’t have any other issues.

Final thoughts

Neutrogena^® Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Serum is a nice serum. It’s effecitivness may vary from user to user. My results may not be yours. Since it is late summer and the temputure is high my skin may react to the product different. Also the product may have changed a bit during shipping as well due to tempeture changes. I can’t say either way. But I can say the product did plump my skin.

I didn’t feel it hydrated my face for 24 hours. Nor did it hydrate my face alone I needed to use an additional moisturizer. Another thing I didn’t understand was the Mica flakes. I guess they are there to give your skin an added glow.

The serum retails for $23.99 USD.

I wasn’t able to find it in many locations aside from Neutrogena at this time.
