I don’t know about anyone else but lately I’ve noticed a rise in Sugar Daddies across social media. Mainly on Instagram. I always find the posts rather comical because some of the guys aren’t always attractive. I just had a follow a little while ago and the profile used a photo that looked like it had been photo shopped out of his work ID badge.
For those of you who don’t know what a Sugar Daddy is you can read more here (source Urban Dictionary.)
I’ve shared about this in the past. You can checkout my video from 2019 on the topic.
I can see the appeal
Okay, I admit i can see the appeal of being a sugar baby. You are given money and or gifts. This may vary. Hell, they even have entire websites devoted to this topic. I get all that yet to me there still has to be a downside somewhere.
Who doesn’t want someone to pay their bills or give them extra money right?
Here’s what gets me
Here’s what gets me most of these Sugar Daddy profiles are full of selfies. Which always set off red flags for me because I think of scammers. Another thing that gets me is some claim to have high profile jobs. The profile i mentioned above about the work ID picture. The person is wearing a shirt that is from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). I though that was odd. If your a government employee you’d think you wouldn’t wear your work shirt in your photo. Not unless the person things this will pique someone’s interest.
I had one profile where the selfies were all the same. Some guy doing nothing. ONe looked like he had woken up from a nap.
As I said some of the profiles are funny. They basically lay out their terms. You can be paid up to $800 in allowance. They also claim they will pay your bills. Every Sugar Daddy profile seems to quote different allowance terms.
I had one profile follow me recently and the “Sugar Daddy” also promoted Bitcoin (source Wikipedia). That one made me laugh I wondered if that’s how he paid his sugar babies. I even thought “Can you pay bills using Bitcoin?”
I also find it funny when the profile goes out of the way to mention that they are a gay man. Like taking someone’s money has ever mattered to anyone. No matter what their sexual orientation is. I know why this is pointed out because most people assume there will eventually be a sexual relationship between the Sugar Daddy and Sugar baby.
I happened to be chatting with a friend earlier and she mentioned that most of these profiles are following select types of profiles such as reviewers or other categories. I have no idea why but it makes for an interesting day.
I also saw someone share a post via Instagram that she had a female sent her a post asking if she would like to be a sugar baby. So I guess there are Sugar Mama’s hunting Instagram too.
Would i try this?
I can say I wouldn’t. most of the profiles just sent off red flags. As I’ve shared with scammers when the profile is packed with selfies with no caption I wonder. I also wonder where they captured the photos from. As we know photos can easily be stolen online.
But again there is a rise so I thought I’d put this out there. If it’s too good to be true it probably is. I know I’ll probably get a ton more now because of this post. But i’ll just check their profiles and mark them as spam.
I just thought of a fun way to interact with this topic so keep an eye out via my social media. I’m thinking a fun GIF game may be next.
Don’t forget to share your thoughts.
