I shared about these products in January you can see that post here. I found these two products to be a bit of a unique addition to Derma-E’s product line. Yet then again there have been a few debates on how blue light affects the body. I found these two posts that might interest you. One is from Web MD and the other is from Harvard Health Publishing (Harvard Medical School website)

BLUE LIGHT SHIELD CONCENTRATED SERUM

Product overview

The BLUE LIGHT SHIELD CONCENTRATED SERUM is a different serum. It’s stated to hydrate your skin while helping defend against environmental aggressor and neutralizing the look of photo-aging (this is according to the box).

The serum itself is a bit of a greenish-gray color. This may be due to the fact that it includes Blue Green Algae and Activated Charcoal.

In terms of the application, you can apply the product twice daily on to clean skin. The photo above shows two pumps into my hand. You may need to experiment to see how much would work for you. The serum does have a slight scent. I think that’s due to the activated charcoal, blue green algae, and the ginseng root. It fades quickly. Its sort of a sea mineral meets a mud mask smell.

Purified Water, Cetyl Alcohol (Vegetable Derived), Glycerin (Vegetable Derived), Glyceryl Stearate Citrate (Vegetable Derived), Glyceryl Stearate (Vegetable Derived), Polysorbate 60, Dimethicone, Cetearyl Glucoside, Sodium Hydroxide, Xanthan Gum, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil, Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer, Diheptyl Succinate, Salicylic Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate, Charcoal Extract, Allantoin, Panthenol, Rhodiola Rosea Root Extract, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Xanthophylls (Lutein), Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Trehalose, Aphanizomenon Flos-Aquae Powder (Blue Green Algae), Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

User Experience

I’ve been using the product for a few days if not a little over a week now. You can apply it twice daily morning and evening onto clean skin. I find the serum cooling. It does apply clear after you work it in your palms or into your skin. I don’t feel that it leaves my face feeling sticky, tacky or dry. You can add this to an existing skincare routine with ease.

A note of caution: Like with any new skincare product you will want to make sure you don’t have any chemical interactions with your existing products. I didn’t seem to have any interactions or skin irritation so it worked well for me.

I have found that my face feels smoother. I felt that when I used this as a base before applying a facial oil it seemed to hold in the moisture longer. I didn’t feel like my face felt dry or tight either.

Final thoughts

Overall I like the serum. I did notice some improvements in my skin. Mainly how smooth it feels. Does it help defend my skin from blue light? That’s still to be seen but since I use my laptop as well as my smartphone daily I’d like to think so. This may be wishful thinking on my part but still, if it can help improve my skin I’m all for it.

Currently, the BLUE LIGHT SHIELD CONCENTRATED SERUM retails for $22.50 (USD). It is available via Derma-E or Ulta.

BLUE LIGHT SHIELD SPRAY

Product overview

The BLUE LIGHT SHIELD SPRAY is stated to help shield your skin from blue light. This can be used in combination with the serum shared above. You may also be able to use it alone (That’s my opinion.)

You apply a few sprays to your face and that’s all you need. You can also use it as a setting spray for makeup. This can also be used throughout your day to give you a hydration boost.

User Experience

I actually started to use this product first. I found it’s a nice light spray but does give your skin a cooling effect. You can work it into your skin after applying or just let it evaporate naturally. I didn’t have any adverse reactions or irritation. I integrated seamlessly into my existing skincare routine.

The spray nozzle offers a nice wide spray pattern. The trigger button is easy to press as well. Overall I can say it’s been a different product for me. The spray has a light scent. To me, it’s a hint of the blue green algae and the ginseng root. It fades quickly.

Final thoughts

The BLUE LIGHT SHIELD SPRAY is currently $16.99 (USD) Depending on how often you use the product this may vary on how often you need to restock. For me, I think it will last me a bit. I only apply 3 or 4 sprays a day or maybe twice daily. You can find this product at Derma-E or Ulta.

Thanks again to Derma-E for gifting me these products. You can visit the links in the post to learn more.
