I will be the first person to admit I’m a horrible gardener. It’s amazing I can keep house plants alive. That being confessed I do still like to try to garden. I mainly do it to help the bees and pollinators. My mom is the avid gardener in our family. Either way I thought I’d share a few products and or tips that may be helpful.
Let’s start with the basic
The basics to me are soil, planters, and seeds. As we know you can purchase those at your favorite store of choice. I will say that I have fallen in love with Jiffy products. You can check out a video I shared a few years ago when I was able to try out a few of their products along with Ferry Morse seeds.
Here are some suggestions for pots if you’d like to check them out.
These small Panda Pots are great for transplanting young plants or as starter pots for a variety of plants.
These larger 7.5 inch size posts are better for house plants or flowers.
Now for larger planters these may fit your needs.
I love these Bloem planters because they are colorful and sold in a variety of colors. They are also sold in a variety of sizes too.
Here’s a few other suggestions for this section
You may find plants in the most unexpected places
I think when we things of buying plants we usually think of our go to places such as big box stores or your local nursery. But let me tell you I’ve found some plants in the most unlikely places.
I’ve found plants at my local 99 Cents Only store and my grocery store as well. So you never know when you will find plants. I found some lovely flowers after Valentine’s day see post below.
The mini rose bush I picked up for a steal at 99 cents. They usually run anywhere from $3 up to $6 each plant.
I’ve saved a few live herbs at my local grocery store. Some stores have a discount section. My local Food 4 Less occasionally has a mix of items in their discount area. But the day I found the herbs they were just sitting on the floor not far from the end of the produce section. I couldn’t turn down a $0.60 cent mint and basil plant. Yes, some of the leaves were a bit dry but the plants survived and are thriving. The regular price for live herbs run around $3.99 up to $5.00 possibly more depending on the herb. You can check out the gallery below to see the plants I’ve saved. I couldn’t find the basil when I was looking in the garden earlier.
I hope this post was helpful to some of you.
