Mystery bags or hauls or whatever you’d like to call them aren’t new. Yet lately it seems like many companies are bringing this back. I find it interesting because you will always be surprised. Be it good or bad you never know what you will get in the box if you order one. I had been seeing a few people share their mystery buys lately. Well, it was interesting to see what items people were sent. I decided to buy two mystery orders. One was for $20 back in May and the other was for $49 and I purchased that earlier this month. Granted prices may vary by brand and what types of products you will be sent. Also for many makeup brand mystery purchases, all sales are final so you end up with what you are sent like it or not.
$20 Mystery Bag: Pur Cosmetics
Let’s start off with the first mystery purchase I made back in May. I happened to find out about this via a Pur Cosmetics email. I figured for $20 it would be worth trying just out of curiosity.

Well, once again I figured for $20 why not try it right? So I placed my order and was very surprised by what arrived. I will say that you do get a free sample item. They offer a list to choose from. I’ll post the video unboxing below.

By far the most expensive items in the mystery bag was the eyeshadow palette. When I added up all the items I think in total it was around $111. I have tried a few items out since my initial unboxing and say I liked them. But that’s for another post.
$49 Mystery Haul: MAC Cosmetics
I became aware of this offer thanks to a Facebook group that I’m a part of. I’ve never purchased anything from MAC before so I figured I’d give it a try. I ordered it earlier this month (June). Shipping was very quick. I think I ordered on a Friday and it arrived by Monday.

Like with the Pur Cosmetics order you can choose one free sample. I placed an order and was once again surprised by some of the items I was sent.

The one thing about this order that got me was the large array of lipsticks. I saw another person’s unboxing video via YouTube this weekend and saw that she was sent about 4 lipsticks as well. I don’t know if items are pre-packed or if they go by quantity available when an order is placed.
Is it worth it?
Like with most things I have a feeling mystery orders will be worth it to some people while other’s may not find a point in it. I can say that the price difference didn’t really deter me granted with MAC I was given 2 extra full-size products for the price.
Again since the sales are all final you need to weight your options as well. When I was chatting with other people via Facebook about the MAC haul a lot of ladies were debating about buying it because you never know what you will be sent.
For the Pur Cosmetics mystery bag, I will admit it was worth the $20 just due to the fact that it included the eyeshadow palette. The bag I was sent did have a number on it. If I recall correctly it was bag #1. I don’t know once again if there were different numbers on the bags that contained different items.
All in all, I think both mystery purchases had their own charm and value. But I’ll leave that decision up to you. I think I have more lipsticks than I will ever use but hey I’ll find something to do with them.
