Being that it was going to be Easter this weekend I figured I’d make a craft. I had seen a few examples of easy crafts online. So I opted to make a sign. I made a hanging sign but you can make the craft any way you like.

Craft Supplies:

The items you will need are the following (All are optional or can be changed to fit your needs)

  • Craft sticks/Popsicle sticks
  • Glue (Your choice) I used a glue stick because that’s what I had on hand.)
  • A plastic spoon (If you opt to use glitter)
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Markers, Crayons, Colored pencils Etc (I used two types of markers. Again you can use what you have on hand)
  • Scissors
  • A hole punch
  • Your sign
  • Eggs or other Easter crafts cutouts
  • Cardboard or cardstock (For stability)
  • Any type of ribbon or string
  • Newspaper or something to cover your work surface with

The Craft

Once I had everything collected I set up my work area. I opted to work outside because I knew I was going to use glitter so it was going to get messy.

I made my sign using Photoshop CS4 but you can always make one by hand or print one out.

I started off by laying out my sign and trying to line it up with the cardboard. I used cardboard because I didn’t have any extra cardstock left.  As you can see I cut it out to size before laying it out on the cardboard

I would suggest that if your good with a craft knife or a Xacto knife this may be useful. After I cut it to the right size I glued it to the cardboard.

As you can see I also used the hole punch and added a few holes along the top and bottom.

Decorating The Eggs

I found the eggs templates here

I like this template size because as you can see the eggs are a good size and you can print 4 off at a time. But you can use any decoration you like.

I cut them out and started to decorate them. I will say that my first attempt at a glitter egg didn’t turn out so well so I made another one.

I smeared the glue stick all over the egg shape and used a plastic spoon to add the glitter.

I will admit my glitter egg looks like it was made by a 3-year-old but hey it still works. I also think glitter glue would be good for this craft as well. I found that using a craft stick to smooth out the glitter helped too. I also used the hole punch and make a hole towards the top of the egg.

For the rest of the eggs, I used the hole punch to add the hole and used two different markers to decorate them.

You can view more about the Dab and Dot Markers here  I also used a metallic set of markers. If you wanted to have a thicker egg you could use cardstock or add cardboard to the back and make them double-sided. I only decorated one side.

Assembling the Sign

To assemble my sign i used curling ribbon. I have tons of it so I figured i’d put it to good use. Besides It’s so colorful it helps give the sign a touch of whimsy.

As you can see I used different colored curling ribbon in different lengths. If you have any extra ribbon you can either cut it off or curl it to give it a cleaner look.

The Final Look

I ended up hanging the sign near the front door. All in all, it was a fun craft and I was able to be creative for a little while.

I hope you enjoyed my craft idea.
