In late 2024 I had an email from Smiley 360. They had a product for testing I might qualify for. I filled out the form and didn’t give it a second thought.

Well, I was sent a package recently that reminded me about the mission.

The Product

I was sent a two pack of mini PainCakes Chill Stick and Go cold packs. The cold packs are 2.88 inches by 2.88 inches. They are blue and purple.

I wasn’t familiar with the brand but they have a few chill packs that you can use for pain relief.

These chill packs can be placed in the freezer. Their self-adhesive backing adheres to the skin and stays in place.

You can use them on your arms, legs, hands, feet, back, chest, neck, and even face (use with caution). (source PainCakes).

According to PainCakes they are latex-free. The chill packs have a gel-like substance on the inside.

How to use Paincakes

The chill packs are pretty straightforward. You place them in the freezer for an hour or longer. If they have been in the freezer for a few hours you will want to let them warm a bit before applying them to the skin.

The removable backing is easy to peel off. It also has some basic instructions on it.

User experience

I placed the PainCakes in a larger resealable bag. Then I placed them in the freezer. I sort of forgot about them for a few days.

They chill to a slight firm/slush consistency. You can still poke the gel substance and it gives a bit.

PainCakes suggests that if the chill packs have been in the freezer for more then 4 hours to let them warm a bit before applying to the skin. That way you don’t have any adverse issues.

Peeling the back adhesive sticker is easy and it can be replaced when you are done.

The adhesive area is the size of the removable back sticker. So it’s the perfect size to adhere to the skin.

I tried the purple one and my dad tried the blue one.

I tried it on my neck and found it gave me a cooling sensation. It didn’t case any skin issues or irritations. You will need to hold the chill pack for a few seconds to a minute then it should hold.

My dad used the blue chill pack on his elbow and he liked it. He said it felt okay. He didn’t have any skin reactions to the adhesive.

According the directions you can wear the chill back for up to 20 minutes or as directed by a doctor. I found that with the size 20 minutes is about the time it has before it thaws fully.

When you are done using the chill pack you can replace the backing and put them back in the freezer for the next time you want to use them.

Final thoughts and Where to buy

Final thoughts

As a whole I liked PainCakes stick and go chill packs. They were easy to use and worked well. I liked the size because they were perfect for smaller aches and pains. The adhesive backing didn’t irritate my dad’s or may skin. The chill packs peel off easily without leaving any residue on the skin.

They wear time is around 20 minutes which is good for small areas of skin. I liked that the chill packs thawed evenly on the skin. The chill packs seem to be durable. The gel freezes/chills well too.

I will gladly purchase a few more of these products. In the future if the need arises.
