I’d heard of Grammarly before but never really used it until recently. I’d seen the ad for it prior to watching a Youtube video or while I was streaming music. I’m an awful speller and I know my grammar is in the same boat. I happened to be chatting with a friend one day who told me she loved it. So, I figured I’d give it a try. I’m happy I did.
creating an account is very straight forward and easy to do. You use your email address and create a password and that’s it. Grammarly has two versions you can choose from a Free one with limited features or a Premium account that has a subscription fee. I opted for the free version.
Once you log in your met with this screen
The free version is limited but gives you the basics for what you need. It offers a feature where you can create a document using Grammarly along with a demo page to show you how it works. The correction of spelling and grammar errors are very similar to what Microsoft Word does. it posts a red line under the word.
As you move to the Apps link you can see that it allows you to use the Grammarly addon in Firefox along with Google Chrome. You can also use if you use MS Word and Outlook. I’ve tried it in Word but I had issues with it. I’ll get to that in a second.
Installing it for Microsoft windows is easy you just click on the link and follow the prompts.
Getting to my issue with MS Word for a second. I was trying to use it to correct grammar and spelling errors in an old compatibility document I have. It kept freezing up and me. This might of had to do with the document formatting. I also noticed that for some reason Grammarly turns off Word’s Autosave function as well. Again this was my experience with it maybe it’s not an issue for everyone. Besides that, I haven’t had any other issue with it.
I love it because it allows you to use it across many platforms. From emails to blogging, to even Facebook. I’ve also noticed it when I’ve posted reviews via amazon as well.
This is what it looks like when yo use it via Facebook. As you can see in the lower right-hand corner it shows you a G. When you type it shows you a green dot. When it finds a mistake it shows you a red dot along with the number of mistakes that need to be corrected.
Here’s an example of what I mean.
When you click on the error a drop down box appears showing you the correct spelling.
I also like that no matter where you are typing you can expand the text box to see your document more clearly.
This was a screen shot of a blank email but you can see that it gives you a nice open space to type and it also corrects your typing as you go along.
The nice thing about Grammarly for me is that they send you an email once a week sharing how you compare to other Grammarly users.
I found this interesting and informative.
All in all, I can say so far I do like using Grammarly. It has helped me improve my writing to a degree. It has also helped me become more grammatically correct.
