I needed to pick up a new nail polish in August. I don’t buy a lot of nail polish anymore. Half the time I forget to use them and end up having to throw them away. Since I had to attend a family event at the end of August I figured I’d buy a new nail color.

I usually buy what I can find which ranges from Sinful colors to Essie even Sally Hansen. Being that the event was a bit more serious I was looking for a darker nail color. Since it’s summer I found a number of fun and lovely colors.

I happened to go to get my hair done and saw they had a nail polish display. I picked up a bottle based on the color not really the brand.

It turns out this was a Morgan Taylor product. I’d heard of the brand but never tried it. The price point was right (under $10 USD.) So I figured what’s the harm the color could be darker than expected.

The product

Being this was my first time purchasing a Morgan Taylor product I can say I liked the bottle design. It’s not too heavy or an awkward shape. The brush handle is long and the bottle is easy to open.

the only con I had was that the black text was lost in the nail polish color.

The shade is named: Tartan The Interruption shade number 465.

It’s a deep crimson color.

applying the polish

The nail polish does need to be shaken. If you don’t shake it enough it may be a bit watery or even runny.

The application brush is a nice wide shape. When it runs across the nail it glides well. I will note that it works well for both fingers and toenails.

dry time

I found that the nail polish dried quickly. It seemed as soon as I was done with my left hand the polish was nearly dry. This may vary by environment and humidity levels.

How many coats did you apply?

I applied 2 coats. I liked the color and coverage but I felt two coats would be better.

This may vary by your preference and nail polish color.

Did you use a topcoat?

I did use a top coat in hopes that the polish would last longer. I used one from Essie I already had at home.

The results

The color overall was just what I wanted. it’s a deep crimson. I didn’t see any streaks or bubbles after applying the top coat.

Does the polish chip easily?

I can say it’s about average. I’ve never found a nail polish that doesn’t chip after a day or two of wear. This is even more true if you do a lot of typing or general day-to-day activities.

I will say that using a top coat does help a bit. It at least adds an extra layer of protection.

After a few days of wear

I’ve been using the nail polish (at the time of creating this post) for roughly a week. So it’s no surprise that it’s starting to chip and flake off.

This is what the polish of my left-hand looks like after 5 days of wear.

My right hand is in about the same shape. My toenail polish is still holding up well. This is pretty great because I’ve been wearing sandals. Not to mention Olive attacks my toes every chance she gets.

Final thoughts and where to buy

Final thoughts

I can say I was impressed with Morgan Taylor nail polish. Tartan The Interruption is a lovely shade and has nice coverage.

I don’t know if the polish would last longer if you used a Morgan Taylor top coat. But that could be something to try in the future.

As a whole the product fit my needs and was a decent price. I liked that the polish didn’t have a harsh smell. Dry time was fast and it was easy to remove if I had some product bleeding.

The polish didn’t stain my nails either.

So I think I would purchase this brand again in the future.

Where to buy

This brand is sold at a variety of retailers. I purchased the bottle at JcPenny salon.

I found this and a few other shades sold on Amazon.
