Hi everyone,

My name is Shadow. I’m one of V’s cats. I was the runt of my litter and had respiratory infections for a while. So I needed lots of love. V and her family gave me that. She loves me and my brothers (Ziggy and Zorro).

I’m here to talk about being kind to black cats. it’s spooky season and lots of people think we are a novelty. We aren’t. We are kind, sweet, and a little shy. Yes, we can be sassy or a bit feisty too. But most of the time we are nice.

I’d like to add that we aren’t evil either. For years lots of us black cats have gotten a bad rap for being associated with witchcraft and stuff. In other countries, we are seen as lucky.

We even have our own day. Black Cat day is October 27th.

Please don’t treat us like a novelty pet or a “live” Halloween decoration. We aren’t something kitschy or a toy. If you plan to adopt us please treat us like a member of the family. We need love too. Don’t shun us or judge us for the lack of color.

We black cats are looking for loving homes and families who treat us with dignity. If you dress us up that’s on you. I will admit some of us might like being dressed up.

With Halloween quickly approaching I ask that we not be mistreated or harmed. We have feelings too you know. Remember many of us do still have claws and teeth so we can defend ourselves.

But in short, I’m here to say please love us and treat us like a member of the family. Just because we may not be everyone’s ideal pet doesn’t mean we don’t deserve love too.

Love ❤️ Shadow 🐾
