There are more and more scams and fraudulent emails going around lately. I had one recently that made me do a double take it looked so authentic.
It was even more convincing because it had branding from Wells Fargo.
The email
The sender
The email was sent from a generic email address. This was a red flag.
It was sent from Wells Fargo online using the email address of:alert@notionviewsoff.com
The email text
The email stated that suspicious activity or changes/ updates had been made to my account. The odd thing was that it wasn’t addressed to anyone not even something as simple as a Wells Fargo customer.

what you shouldn’t do
If you are sent an email like this one don’t click on any links. Also, don’t call any 1-800 or general numbers listed.
You can report these to your bank many have email addresses where you can forward the emails too. You can also visit a branch if it is during business hours. Or you can use the general customer service number on the back of your ATM card.
another thing to think about
If you are sent an email such as this one on a Sunday (as I did) think it over. Most bank branches are closed so why would you get this urgent email notice? That’s why I reached out to Wells Fargo just to double-check. I also checked my account as well. I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary.
I reached out to Wells Fargo
I reached out to Wells Fargo by calling the 1-800 number on the back of my ATM card. I spoke with a very nice rep who asked me to share the email address the email was sent from. She reassured me that it was fake since it wasn’t sent from a wells fargo dot com address. She told me to delete the email.
I forgot to ask if the 1-855 number was valid.
what you can do
You can forward the email to Wells Fargo. You can also spam it and block the sender.
