Dating:Confusing as ever or is it just me?
I happened to be watching a repeat of an old show 227 the other day and the topic episode discussed was dating.They, of course, poked fun at the trend at the time which was video dating.
It’s funny how we have advanced beyond singles ads to video dating to using apps or websites to find a significant other. Yet in some terms, we have stayed the same.
How can this be you might ask. With our advancements, we are still at square one. I think with all of these options we may even be more confused. We all have a friend (I’m included in this) that is single and has the same gripe. They can’t find a date, get notices, or even get a text back. This is a discussion that happens a lot among my friends.
I was chatting with a friend recently and we ended up on this exact topic. We talked about online dating sites. She told me that she was using a paid site while a friend of hers was using one of the free popular dating sites. She confessed that online dating hadn’t fared well for her.
I shared with her that I’d been getting messages via Instagram from random people. I showed her my latest chat and she had a good laugh. I told her it’s funny how people think just because they say you are pretty your supposed to melt.
I admitted that I had tried online dating many years ago for a very short time (it was about a week). I told her “Some of the pictures people use are the worst. Or they use a group photo where you have to figure out who the profile is for.” If anyone is wondering I didn’t have much luck basically guys who wanted a girlfriend on the side.
I never knew there were so many dating apps out there until recently. I was participating in a survey that asked if you know about dating apps. It listed the popular ones such as Tindr and eHarmony to ones I’d never heard of before such as it’s just lunch.
Even with all of our new tech advancements people are still being ghosted or scammed by potential mates. Granted this may not happen to everyone but it is a topic that is open for a lengthier discussion. I won’t even go into the topic of catfishing or fake profiles either.
But I think I’m as confused as I’ve ever been when it comes to the dating game these days. It looks like I’m not the only one either.
