As a cat owner of over 20 years, I’ve tried several litters. I’ve always gone back to clumping litter. I know it can be messy and dusty but it’s what works best for my cats.

I’ve switched brands over the years buying what’s on sale or what has the best odor control. That being said I also try to find a litter that is medium grain because I don’t want my cats to have litter stuck to their paws. That’s happened in the past and it’s a pain to deal with. I think it was painful for them as well.

Tidy Cats litter

I’ve used Tidy Cats litter off and on over the years. I swap out litter from time to time. I’ve tried natural litters and even paper pellets litters for the kittens but they weren’t as good at odor control. Some were even messy.

Tidy Cats is one of my go-to litters because it works well and the cats like it.

A new product

A few years ago I was able to try a new product thanks to Fur Buddies. I was happy to try the litter.

When the box arrived I was excited. I knew it would be a great product for Sophie. She was around 15 or maybe 16 so she was having trouble with litter that was a bit too dusty or larger grains.

When the original product arrived I wasn’t able to take a photo of the box because it was slightly damaged and very dirty. It looked like it had fallen in a mud puddle and the outer box was damp. The litter box was okay just a bit crushed.

But I was sent the Unscented litter.

Putting the litter to the test

I used a bit of the litter in all the litter boxes in the house. It seemed as soon as I added it to Sophie’s favorite litter box she used it without hesitation.

The litter clumps evenly and doesn’t seem to be as wasteful as other brands I’ve used in the past.

Since my original test, I’ve used the product twice. I used it with Linus, Bear, and Smokey. I’m currently using it with the other cats as well.

The granule size is small and almost sand-like when you move a scoop through it. It also includes activated charcoal.

I like that this litter is low dust. It’s easy to pour out of the box and into the litter box.

clean up is a breeze

Cleaning the litter box is a breeze. We have three litter boxes and clean them at least twice a day. The litter clumps evenly and fully. I like that the clumps are easy to scoop up and don’t fall apart when you pick them up.

The litter clumps to solid waste well too.

I feel like I waste less litter when I clean out the litter box as opposed to other brands.

however, there is a con

The litter is great but can be a bit messy. This may vary from cat to cat. But I can say the kittens are messy so I have to sweep. But the litter is easy to sweep or vacuum up.

odor control

As with any litter odor control may vary depending on the number of cats in the household. This may also vary by the type of litter box you have. For me, it’s pretty good. I have two covered litter boxes and one open one. But so far odor control is about average. The box states you can get up to 14 days of odor control. Again this may vary.

Final thoughts and where to buy

Final thoughts

So far I love the litter. It’s effective at clumping and easy to pick up. I like that it’s low dust or nearly dust-free. The unscented litter works well and the cats seem to like it.

The litter is sold in scented and unscented versions. I haven’t tried the scented version so I don’t know what it smells like or how strong the scent is.

Where to buy

This litter is sold at a variety of retailers. You can find where it is sold near you or online by visiting the Purina product page.

Once there click on the Buy Now button.

I’ve ordered this from Chewy.com and seen it at my local Petco stores. It’s also sold at Amazon. The litter ranges in price from around $17 to $20 USD. Price will vary by retailer. It’s sold in a 24 lb box.
