Let’s face it when you typically think of glow-in-the-dark paint you think of Halloween right? Well, I know I do. I also think of fun with black lights too. But I found a few uses for it that are pretty helpful.

There are different types of paints

There are a few different glow-in-the-dark paints. Some are for all surfaces such as wood, glass, etc. While others may be for fabrics only. Depending on your project always double-check with the brand if the paint is suitable for the surface.

As with many paints they may also be sold in different sizes. From 2 oz containers to 8 oz ones. Or they also sell them in a larger tub container. Each brand is different.

Some paints may also not be brushable they may be more of an apply with the applicator tip provided.

That being shared all glow-in-the-dark paints can be charged under natural sunlight or UV light. If you’re in a pinch you can also leave it sitting under a high watt light too.

Ways to use glow-in-the-dark paint

find ceiling fan pulls

I have blackout curtains in my bedroom and I have a heck of a time finding my ceiling fan pulls in the dark. I would literally stand under the fan and wave my hands until I hit one of them.

My ceiling fan pulls are round and plastic.

I purchased Deco Art Ultimate Glow in the dark paint (2 oz) container and figured I’d try out an experiment.

I applied two layers of paint to the top halves of my ceiling fan pulls. I painted the best I could around them. Let the paint dry then painted another layer. Depending on the paint thickness you may have to add a bit more.

But my experiment worked. I can leave the blinds open and charge the glow-in-the-dark paint or turn on my ceiling fan lights.

The end result is the same my fan pulls glow a bright green.

find your key or keyhole

There’s nothing worse than trying to unlock a door in the dark. So why not add a touch of glow-in-the-dark paint to your key and/or your keyhole (if possible).

You can paint a few strokes on the surface and let it charge if it gets direct sunlight.

Highlight your address

This might be a good idea for those who don’t have painted home address numbers or if your address is shadowed by plants.

If you have home address numbers all you have to do is coat them twice with the paint and let them charge in the sunlight.

This could be helpful in case of an emergency.

Add it to clothing or shoes

If you are someone who works out early in the morning or later in the evening this might be a good idea. You can purchase the universal glow-in-the-dark paint or purchase fabric paint.

You can follow the directions on the container.

Most glow-in-the-dark fabric paints do have a drying time and suggest you not wash the product for a few days after application.

Some of the glow-in-the-dark fabric paints are sold in different colors.

Add it to your bike or skateboard (etc)

As with adding it to clothing adding it to a bike or skateboard (etc) could be helpful to keep you visible in darker areas.

Yes, I know you have to have a bike light and reflectors but glow-in-the-dark paint may be an added visual tool. You could even use it on your helmet.

get creative

You can use glow-in-the-dark paint in many ways. It’s up to you how you opt to use it.
