After being a cat owner for 20 years I knew cats would get jealous or have hurt feelings.
I’ve also found that Siamese cats are a breed all their own. They seem to follow their own rules and have their own cattitude.
My tabby Rocket was very sentimental she didn’t like being scolded and would take a while to want to be friends again.
Teddy is surprisingly jealous
Out of his two brothers, Dylan and Sam Teddy tends to be the most jealous.
I don’t know if that’s because of his Siamese genes. Or if he feels he needs to be the center of attention.
But boy does he get jealous. If I’m outside petting another one of my cats he jogs on over and demands to be petted too.
As you can see from this short Instagram video I shared from Easter. He tends to like to be petted when I’m paying attention to his cousin Ziggy.
Just an FYI Ziggy and Teddy have the same dad. He’s one of the neighborhood toms. My neighbor named him TJ. He’s a Siamese.
Teddy’s not the typical Siamese
I don’t think Teddy is a typical siamese he isn’t very vocal unless he feels like it. He also was the only one in his litter to have Siamese coloring. His mom was black and white like Dylan. Sam’s dad looks like him he’s gray and white.
I think Dylan may be TJ’s baby too because he’s a bit more chatty. He likes to meow to let us know he’s around.
Bowie was like Teddy he was pretty quiet but loved the attention. He was considered a Siamese mix due to his white paws. He was so sweet. He passed in April due to liver disease (that’s a whole other post that needs to be talked about).
Yes I know cats love attention
After owning Pal I knew cats loved attention but I never knew they could become borderline possessive. Pal was demanding when he wanted attention and he would plop down on my school books and papers.
I think that’s most cats but Teddy has his own style of asking for attention. He will climb into bed with me and purr then give me nips. They can be hurtful. Thankfully he hasn’t broken the skin. That’s of his way of asking for pets or love.
He’ll also follow me around outside if I haven’t paid attention to him that morning. It’s not hard to miss a chubby little tank of a Siamese standing in your way. Or running in front of you. He’s almost tripped me a few times.
teddy’s a naughty bear too
When we first adopted the boys we thought he looked like a little bear. Teddy was a cream/champagne color and was barely starting to get his Siamese coloring. So we call him Teddybear. And boy as cuddly as he can be he can also be a very naughty Mr. Bear (as I like to call him)
He doesn’t like seeing an empty plate. When he was a kitten he used to take the plates apart. I feed them in styrofoam plates for easier clean-up.
He will literally pick up a plate by the corner and carry it off his placemat and drop it on the kitten floor. Or he just starts to bite the ends until he gets attention.
He also tends to be a bit mischievous. He’ll play with the blind pulls and try to scratch the furniture. When he’s really mad he’ll try to knock stuff over (that is if he can find something).
He inherited his dad’s mannerisms
It’s odd how cats can inherit certain gestures from their parents. I guess they are like people if the genes are strong they go on.
Teddy has the same temperament as his dad TJ. He’s pretty laid back and cool. But when he gets bothered or wants attention he demands it. He also has the same “I’m so cute I didn’t do it look.”
He gives you a sweet or innocent look. Other times he sort of bows his head and meows an apology asking for pets.
TJ was my first real exposure to Siamese cats. We didn’t become friends until the last few years. I’ve been able to pet him off and on for the past 2 years. I think he either had a family or someone was feeding him at one point then he was abandoned.
Siamese are an experience to own
Being that Teddy is the first Siamese I’ve owned he’s taught me that they are an experience that I’ve never known before. They are affectionate, silly, and at times jumpy. But they are a breed all their own with their own quirks and attitude.
I’m happy to say that he makes my day brighter. He’s added a whole new energy and lots of joy to my house.
