I recently had to get rid of some old mattresses that we had. I thought I’d share some tips on how you can do this.
Store take backs
Many times when you buy a new mattress (set) when your new mattress is delivered you can have the old now hauled away.
You can check with the store your purchase your new mattress from. If they provide this service they will let you know.
Donate them
If the mattress is gently used you can see if any charities near you will accept them. Or maybe find a family in need to donate it too.
Check with your City or County waste management
I know my city and county offer bulky pickups. There is a fee and item limit. Our city only allows 2 bulky item pickups per year. Once a month our city has a drop off event where you can drop off bulky items.
There are also locations where you can drop off the items for a fee.
Recycle it
Did you know you can recycle mattresses in California and a few other states.
You can visit ByeBye Mattress to find a recycling location near you.
This what we did. I found a recycling location in a neighboring city. It was free but we did have to drop off the mattresses.
Haul it away
If none of these solutions work for you then as a last resort you may have to call in a junk hauler. This could be any removal service that is in your area or even using services like 1-800-Got-Junk.
I hope this info was helpful.
